Front cameras mirror what you see on screen, so selfies often come out reversed — text in the background reads backwards and the composition feels wrong. Flipping horizontally puts it back.

Mirroring is also a designer’s trick: flip a layout to check its balance, or flip a subject so they face into the page rather than out of it. Because a mirror simply rearranges existing pixels rather than resampling them, it costs nothing in quality — the result is identical data in a different order, so you can flip and flip back with no loss at all.
