Modern sites serve WebP. Older software refuses it. Converting takes seconds.

If you saved an image from a website recently and ended up with a .webp file that your photo viewer will not open, nothing has gone wrong. The site served WebP because it is smaller, your browser saved exactly what it received, and the application you tried to open it with has not caught up.
Every current browser can decode WebP, which means the conversion can happen in the browser you already have open — no upload, no waiting.
Passos
- 1
Check whether your WebP has transparency
WebP supports an alpha channel. If yours is a logo or a cut-out, JPEG will flatten it onto a solid colour — convert to PNG instead if you need to keep the transparency.
- 2
Convert to JPEG at a high quality
The source WebP was probably already lossy, so this is a second lossy pass. Stay at 85 or above to keep the additional loss invisible.
- 3
Pick a background colour if it has transparency
The flatten colour is yours to choose. Match it to whatever the image will sit on.
- 4
Download and check
The JPEG will open in any application on any platform.
Only convert if you have to
If the file is going back onto a website, leave it as WebP. Converting to JPEG makes it larger for no benefit.
Animated WebP loses its animation
JPEG holds one frame. An animated WebP becomes a still image.
