Change the background of a photo

Planned as a cloud AI tool: replace a background with a studio, colour or generated scene.

Not available yet

This tool is on the roadmap. The page is here so the workflow, formats and related tools are documented — but nothing is processed and no result is produced.

Replacing a background is two problems stacked: separate the subject cleanly, then generate or composite something plausible behind it — with lighting and edges that do not give the composite away.

The second half is generative work that no browser can do locally today, so this is designed as a Tier C cloud tool. It stays disabled until an AI provider is configured on the server, and the page will disclose the upload before anything is sent.

What you get

  • Studio and solid-colour backgrounds

The common cases — white studio sweep, brand colour, soft gradient — planned first.

  • Explicit upload disclosure

Cloud tools state plainly that the image leaves your device, before you choose to start.

  • Provider-agnostic

Built behind an AIProvider interface so the backend can change without touching the product.

How it works

  1. 1

    Provider check

Without a configured provider the tool reports that and stops. It does not simulate a result.

  2. 2

    Disclosed upload

When enabled, the page states that the image is sent for processing before you begin.

  3. 3

    Result into the editor

The returned image loads into the same canvas for cropping, resizing and export.

Specifications

  • This tool is not implemented yet. Nothing is processed, no image is uploaded, and no result is produced. The page documents the intended workflow and is excluded from search indexing until the feature actually works.
  • Planned as Tier C (cloud AI). Disabled unless AI_PROVIDER and AI_API_KEY are configured server-side.

Why use KaiConvert

  • No upload for local tools
  • Works offline once the page is loaded
  • Cloud AI is always clearly labelled before you start
